PHILA PRIMUS
“The work of Phila Primus captivated me with its utterly distinctive visual intelligence and fearless experimentation with material. When I first encountered Phila’s pieces, I was immediately struck by the way she is able to engage with space within the image itself. I am truly delighted that we have the opportunity to present this delicate, yet structurally powerful body of work in our gallery—one that opens up an unexpected dialogue between corporeality and the image.
For me, Phila represents a synonym for an innovative approach to multimedia practice. The exhibition in our gallery is built upon her unique technique of layering foils and assembling cardboard, which pushes the boundaries of traditional drawing and painting."

Phila Primus (*1991) is a multimedia artist and poet. The central theme of her work is the interconnection between body and mind. She often understands the body as a map of memory, perception, and identity, in which physical and mental experience intertwine.
Her work is connected in many ways to the tradition of surrealism; it is contemplative, imaginative, and reflective, moving within the terrain of the unconscious and lucidly depicting the absurdity of realism. The body and consciousness – the consciousness of the body – become the starting point for exploring the force field between freedom and determination, whether genetic, cultural, personal, or social.
Visually, her works typically combine different media. She blends painting, photography, and found materials, often working with layered patterns printed on transparent foils, which she also combines with glass, various types of paper, as well as light and sound elements.
She has exhibited, among others, at Caesar Gallery, Spot Gallery, the festivals 4+4 Days in Motion and Re-Connect Art, and at HYB4 Gallery, where she has had a studio since June 2026. In September of this year, her monographic publication, featuring her work from 2013 to the present, will be published by KANT.
